What motivates people to lie?

These lies that are told time and time again are known as social lies. In them, the person is socially lying for some reason. The causes of lies include low self-esteem, insecurity, some trauma, anxiety, fear, anguish, unhappiness, fear of telling the truth, being criticized or judged for a certain attitude, or for not feeling capable of dealing with the situation in which they are. involved, so he prefers to lie — or even not to embarrass someone else.

Sometimes the compulsion to lie can be associated with another type of compulsion, for example: compulsion for food, shopping or drinking. In these cases, she lies saying she didn’t buy it, didn’t eat that way or didn’t drink. Consequently, the person lies to try to deny the compulsion and it becomes a habit.

Lying is a learned behavior, for example: if an individual was born in a home where he was surrounded by lies, the chances of the person reproducing this behavior are very high. It is more common for lies to be told by children or adolescents, so it is important that the elders correct the young people by saying phrases such as: “don’t lie”, “you don’t have to lie”, “here at home everyone tells the truth”, ” always tell the truth”.
