The purpose of erecting the statue is to pay tribute to the monarch’s life, service and dedication.

Great Britain’s King Charles III and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, unveiled the first posthumous statue of Queen Elizabeth, who died on September 8, during a trip to York, Yorkshire. CNN writes about it.

The new monument is installed on the wall at one of the entrances to York Minster. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the UK.

“When this statue was first planned five years ago, it was conceived to celebrate the late Queen’s platinum jubilee, to mark a reign of unprecedented length and success,” the king said.

According to him, now that the queen has passed away, the statue was unveiled as a tribute to her memory and respect for a life that Her Majesty dedicated only to service and devotion.

“The late queen was always attentive to the welfare of her people throughout her life. Now her image will guard what will become Queen Elizabeth Square for centuries to come,” added the king.
