Miss Universe 2022 will be the 71st pageant that will take place on January 14, 2023 in New Orleans.
Thai media mogul and transgender rights activist Ann Jakapong Jakrajutatip bought Miss Universe for $20 million, marking the first time a woman has owned a beauty pageant. This was reported by Reuters.
“This acquisition is a strong strategic addition to our portfolio,” he said, adding that Miss Universe, with its content, licensing and merchandising capabilities, plans to expand into Asia.
The annual beauty pageant run by Miss Universe, co-owned by Donald Trump from 1996 to 2002, is broadcast in 165 countries and has been running for 71 years.
Ann Jakapong Jakrajuthatip was found to be the head of JKN Global Media Co, Thailand’s largest media distribution company, and is also a celebrity, starring in local reality shows. JKN produces its own shows and distributes content overseas in Thailand, including documentaries and Bollywood dramas.
It was previously reported that Miss Ukraine will open the national selection, which will be held online and offline.
