The former Prince of Wales learned of his mother’s deteriorating health at the same time the world did.
The new King of Great Britain, Charles III, learned of the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, on the phone while at her home in Scotland. The Mirror reported this.
Minutes after the call, he and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, boarded a plane flying to Balmoral, where the leader died.
According to the department, the call was made on September 8 at 12:30 pm – the same time the world learned about the queen’s poor health.
Chief Royal Correspondent Jack Royston said: “Charles and Camilla were at Dumfries House. Camilla was about to record an interview with Jenna Bush Hager. Charles answered the phone, everything was quiet, asked everyone to be quiet. The next moment , Charles and Camilla are in a helicopter.”
It was previously reported that Queen Elizabeth II will be buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.
