Meta did not deny such a change. The company noted that users can opt out of being tracked.
The browser included in the mobile applications of the social networks Facebook and Instagram is able to monitor the user’s activity on the pages. This is possible thanks to the embedded JavaScript code, writes Engadget.
Cybersecurity expert and former Google engineer Felix Krause says that when clicking on links from the Facebook and Instagram apps, the pages open in the built-in browser application owned by Meta, and not in one that the user personally chooses.
So, after opening the page, code is added to help track all actions. We are talking about pressing buttons, links, highlighting text, creating screenshots, entering passwords, addresses and bank card numbers.
At the same time, Meta did not deny such a change. But they noted that users can opt out of being tracked. The company added that this information is necessary to work with targeted advertising.
Recall that Facebook in the second quarter faced a decrease in revenue of 1% to $28.8 billion. The company speculates that growth may decline further in the third quarter.
Meta issued bonds for the first time and raised $10 billion
