The actor received a prestigious reward for life achievements at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. In his speech, he also criticized Donald Trump’s policy.
American actor Robert de Niro has owned the honorary gold palm branch of the 76th Cannes Film Festival for the remaining cinema accomplishments, various reports.
The awards were awarded to him by a colleague for the Flower Moon Leonardo Dicaprio Killer movie.
In his speech, De Niro expressed a remembrance of the state of democracy in the United States, recalling 100% tariffs that former President Donald Trump threatened to enter foreign films:
“In my country, we are desperate to fight for democracy, which is realized to be granted. And it affects all of us here because art is democratic. Art is included. It combines people like today. Art is looking for the truth, art covers the difference – and that’s why art is a threat – that’s why we are a jerk and the most actor.
De Niro calls on artists around the world to continue to create films that are important and protect the freedom of creativity, not giving up on political pressure.
“We must act now. If there is no violence, but with great desire and determination. The time comes for everyone who is not indifferent to freedom, repair, protest, and when there is an election, of course, to vote,” he said.
Earlier it was reported that the Cannes Film Festival organizers of 2025 introduced new dress code policies.
