Famed supermodel Linda Evangelista will receive $50 million in moral damages for a botched weight loss procedure that damaged her body six years ago. He announced it on Instagram.
“I’m glad I settled the CoolSculpting case. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life with friends and family and I’m glad to put this matter behind me. I’m truly grateful for the support I’ve received from those . who reached out to help,” the celebrity wrote.
Linda famously sought $50 million in damages in her lawsuit, claiming she was severely injured by Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc’s CoolSculpting procedure, which she says did the opposite of what she expected.
CoolSculpting is a brand name for cryolipolysis, which uses low temperatures to reduce body fat. It is also known as Body Contouring and is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. During the procedure, a device is applied to the fat deposits, which is set at a temperature below the freezing point, which causes cell death in the tissues.
Throughout the 90s, Linda was one of the biggest models in the industry, posing for many popular magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Elle and Marie Claire, as well as showing her clothes on the catwalks for major brands including Chanel, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani among others.
However, she stopped working in 2016 due to developing a rare reaction to a cosmetic procedure. The star developed paradoxical fatty hyperplasia (PAH). Thus, the area treated by Evangelista became larger, not smaller. Growths began to appear on her chin, thighs and chest area.
CoolSculpting offered to pay for liposuction to repair the damage done by PAH, but that didn’t work either.
