The jury recognized Zhadan as a great historian who continues the tradition of Central European literature.
Ukrainian poet, musician Serhiy Zhadan has been a compliment of the German Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thinking. This was reported on the website of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
“The insights Serhiy Zhadan offers to his readers about Ukrainian society and the way he talks about saving the war (2014) are unique in the latest European literature,” the report said.
The jury also added that the author not only describes the Ukrainian world, he helps it understand all its chaos, suffering and humanity.
In turn, Sergei Zhadan thanked the jury for this award.
“I can only repeat that now all the awards that Ukraine’s art has received in the world are, first of all, awards to our readers, listeners and viewers, that is, to the millions of Ukrainians who, in their struggle, their resistance, their daily work, establish Ukraine in the world. It is a great honor to be a part of these people and this culture, “he wrote on Facebook.
The awards ceremony will take place on December 2, 2022 in Bremen.
Zhadan had earlier reportedly told how Kharkov was experiencing continued shelling.
Sergei Zhadan was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature
