In 2024, among the prize winners was Yulia Navalnaya, awarded in the category of Courage under fire.
The leader of the Boombox group, the Ukrainian singer Andrei Khlyvnyuk, who serves in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, refused the international award in the field of investigative journalism and protection of human rights around the world named Sergei Magnitsky.
He was very grateful to the jury, citing his “contribution to the fight for freedom of speech and basic human rights.” However, he will not receive the award as the other winners are “not convinced” of the need to provide weapons to Ukraine to defend against Russian aggression.
“As the father of two children who live under missile attack, and a private in the Ukrainian Defense Forces (UAV attack squad of the Kherson patrol police), I will not receive this award together with other laureates who “don’t sure” about the need to provide my country with the necessary Western weapons to repel Russian aggression,” the message said.
It was previously reported that Andrei Khlyvnyuk, who stood in defense of the Motherland at the beginning of the war, showed a new video from the front.
