Just over a month after the death of Silvio Santoswhich took place in 2024, Tiago Abravanel, grandson of the iconic presenter, shares reflections on living with his grandfather and reveals a significant decision made after the loss.
In an interview with CNN’s ‘Na Palma da Mari’, the actor details the relationship which he maintained with Silvio Santos and discusses how his grandfather’s death influenced his subsequent actions: “That’s what he would do,” he says.
Tiago Abravanel was performing in Rio de Janeiro with the musical ‘Hairspray’ when he learned of the death of Silvio. Immediately, the actor returned to São Paulo to participate in his grandfather’s funeral ceremonies. “He passed away on Saturday, I was performing in Rio. I didn’t participate in the show and returned to São Paulo to be with my family — my mother, sisters and aunts. We spent this moment together on Saturday”, he recalls Abravanel.
After the farewell ceremonies, Tiago returned to Rio de Janeiro to complete the musical’s season.
I got on a plane and returned to Rio to do the last session of the play. Without a doubt, that was what he would do. I feel the need to continue”, he explains, according to Caras Brasil.
Silvio’s impact
Tiago Abravanel also reflected on the grandfather’s lasting impact in Brazilian culture and how he has been dealing with loss. He highlights that Silvio Santos will remain alive in the country’s collective memory: “He was always an extremely dedicated professional; his work transformed lives. I believe that deeply.”
It’s hard to imagine that he is no longer with us,” he admits. James. “For me, it’s like Silvio Santos had not died; it remains alive in the minds and hearts of Brazilians. He will never die for those who had the opportunity to know him or watch him on television. It’s this memory that gives me strength to move forward and continue writing my own story”, concludes the actor.
