5 interesting facts about Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship

Tomorrow, the 3rd, the film “Joker: Delirium for Two” arrives in Brazilian cinemas, a sequel to the award-winning “Joker”, from 2019, directed by Todd Phillipsand which will present the relationship of the Clown of Crime, played by Joaquin Phoenixwith Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga.

Although this is the first time that the relationship between the characters will be addressed in the franchise, Phillipsthe couple has already had their involvement developed in different DC Comics comics.

With that in mind, RECREIO brought 5 interesting facts about the relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn for you to know before watching “Joker: Delirium for Two” in theaters. Check it out!

1. Jealousy

It’s no secret how toxic the relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn is. In addition to frequently committing violence against his partner, the Clown Prince of Crime also never cared for his beloved, always giving priority to the rivalry with his arch-enemy, Batman.

For this reason, Harley Quinn became jealous of Batman, as she was the only person he never abandoned. The woman even confesses her envy to the hero personally, stating that, for this reason, she often believes that Joker likes his enemy more than her.


2. Children?

In the White Knight comics, published between October 2017 and May 2018, Joker and Harley Quinn had two children, Jackie and Bryce. In the story, Harley tries to overcome the shadow and trauma that Joker left over her and the children after being killed, however, Jackie ends up deciding to follow her father’s side, starting to dress in costumes similar to the Clown of Crime.


3. Alert

Throughout the comics, it becomes increasingly clear that the relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn is extremely toxic, and not at all healthy. According to the CBR portal, the characters’ relationship was developed as a kind of warning to readers, presenting what not to do in a real-life relationship. Furthermore, Paul Dini and Bruce Timmco-creators of Harley, were reportedly inspired by touching stories they heard from a close friend.

4. Another Harley?

In one of the episodes of the series “Batman: The Animated Series”, responsible for introducing Harley Quinn, Joker ends up managing to escape from Arkham Asylum, but leaves Harley trapped. Once free, he realizes that the villain’s absence causes a hole in his life, and decides to replace her by hiring a fake Harley Quinn to take her place — but ends up being abandoned in a short time.


5. Cruel acts

In the comics, Joker puts Harley Quinn’s life in danger countless times, just because he can’t stand to be by her side any longer. In “Batman: Harley Quinn” (1999), for example, he traps her in a missile to send her into space and never see her again, after the villain made him remember what it was like to be a couple and if care about someone, something that would be hindering him in his plans to conquer Gotham. So, to return to his focus and solve the problem, the only solution found would be to kill his partner.
