On the eve of his 75th birthday, the rector of KNUKiI gave a frank interview to a famous TV presenter.
The Rector of KNUKiI Mikhail Poplavsky, who has been leading the university for more than 30 years, in an interview with Grigory Reshetnik on YouTube, openly spoke about himself, his path to success, the creation of the university’s brand, national project and major stages of his life.
In particular, Poplavsky said that he was born in the village of Mechislavka in the Kirovograd region and from childhood he dreamed of being successful. After graduating from school, he entered vocational school No. 25 in Gorlovka, Donetsk region, specializing in electric locomotive driver in a mine.
“What are bursaks? A blue peacoat, tarpaulin boots, a robe. But I always took care of my appearance: I was ironed, well-groomed, combed. Appearance is one of the steps on the path to success. After serving in the army and working as the director of the cultural center of the village of Velikiye Troyany, Kirovograd region, 25-year-old Poplavsky in 1975 became a first-year student at the Kyiv State Institute of Culture, graduated with honors. And in 1993, he already headed an institution that trained librarians and directors of rural cultural centers, and became the youngest rector in Ukraine.
Speaking about the development of his university, Poplavsky said that he always surprised those around him with bold, unconventional and even surprising decisions – “he surprised the Ukrainian show business by launching PR project Singing Rector as a technology for promoting Kyiv University of Culture, when he first appeared on stage with a song Junius eagle“.
“It is very difficult to enter the image of a “young eagle”, and even more difficult to get out of it,” admitted the rector.
He recalled that during his creative career he released more than 50 videos, more than 200 songs of various genres and more than 150 concert performances, and also turned his educational institution into one among the leading universities of culture and art in the country (the university. was ranked first in the ranking of Best Cultural Institutions for the fourth year and art of higher education in Ukraine).
“Traditionally, I personally meet with students in September I will conduct master classes for freshmen students with opportunities and tools, we create a creative environment for the realization of their creative, healthy ambition,” said the rector of KNUKiI.
An important part of his life, according to Poplavsky, is a number of creative projects aimed at popularizing Ukrainian songs and supporting young artists.
He remembered how in 1997, “when Ukrainian children’s programs accounted for only 3% of the total broadcasting, and Russian programs were broadcast. morning star“, he founded the all-Ukrainian children’s television competition Krok do zirok. According to the rector, this competition became the only Ukrainian national and social project, which provided an opportunity for all interested children from different parts of the country to realize their creative abilities under a conditions – the songs must be performed in Ukrainian and live.
In 2004, when, according to Poplavsky, the information space of Ukraine was completely filled with Russian content, he founded a patriotic project. Our song – a platform for legendary stage masters and young performers who can present new Ukrainian music to a wide audience.
“This year, the project, which over time became the Ukrainian song of the year, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Ukrainian song that unites us, it is our soul and strength. its traditions, the desire for self-determination and freedom, love for the native land, optimism and faith in the bright future of Ukraine,” said the founder of the project.
April 2, 2012 was another significant date for Poplavsky: on that day, the rector’s team implemented an unprecedented musical telethon. The song binds us togetherwhich had the opportunity to watch the audience in 150 countries around the world. The marathon is included in the Guinness World Records in the category of Longest live musical television marathon of a national anthem. It lasted 110 hours, 3 minutes and 27 seconds.
Poplavsky admits that he is happy: he is engaged in his life – the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, and has a wonderful family.
“In our conditions, waking up in the morning I am already happy, a happy rector, a happy father, recently became a grandfather, I have three grandchildren and I am proud that the Poplavsky family I researched up to the eighth generation, I continue to dream that Ukraine will become a European, rich country, so that peace will come, so that we will win and feel that we are a great united country,” he said.
