You need to see the documentary about transvestite Luana Muniz!

The production is directed by Leonardo Menezes and Rian Córdova and is a snapshot of the great personality of Luana, a queer icon.

It is impossible to talk about the LGBTQIA+ movement in Brazil today without considering the figure of the transvestite Luana Muniz. And there is a documentary about the diva on streaming, it is called “Luana Muniz – Filha da Lua”. The production is directed by Leonardo Menezes and Rian Córdova and is a snapshot of Luana’s great personality, “mother” to so many girls from Lapa and all of Rio de Janeiro, friend, counselor, protector.

The documentary shows her routine divided between prostitution, LGBT+ activism and shows in cabarets. It reveals Luana’s private life to say what everyone should know: transvestites are people like any other, period.

Testimonies from Alcione, Luis Lobiano, Father Fabio de Melo, Felipe Suhre and Lorna Washington help to create this portrait.

In 2017, “Luana Muniz – Daughter of the Moon” won the Best Feature Film Award at the Rio Festival of Gender and Sexuality in Cinema, Best Feature Film according to the Audience’s Choice at MixBrasil, Best Documentary at DIGO – Festival of Sexual Diversity and Gender of Goiás and Recognition Award at the Impact Docs Awards, in California.
