Free event will be from August 20 to September 14, with attractions in several cultural spaces in the south zone of São Paulo
FESTCAL activities take place in four strategic locations: Casa de Cultura Campo Limpo, Fábrica de Cultura do Capão Redondo, SESC Campo Limpo and Espaço Cultural CITA. The curators of this edition are Naloana Lima, Joka Andrade, Juliano Barone, Kyra Piscitelli, Fernanda Péis and Simone Carvalho, who selected projects that reflect the authenticity and cultural resistance of the outskirts of São Paulo.
Highlights of the program include shows such as “Laia and the Flight of Imagination”, by Cia. Tu Mateixa, which explores the world of puppets; “Engolindo Mágoas em Doses Homeopáticas”, by the Pedra Rubra group, which addresses the oppression faced by women; and “O Sinal Tocou e Ainda Não Cheguei”, by the Coro de Teatro, which uses Hip-Hop culture to portray the educational challenges faced by young people from the outskirts of the city.
The festival also includes interactive performances, such as “A Mala do Caminhante” (The Walker’s Suitcase), by the Mala Artistic Center, and “Boi Bumbá – A Brazilian Folia”, by the Salad Vinte Theater Company. The program includes performances by groups such as Negro Sim, Madeirite Rosa, and Circo di SóLadies|NemSóLadies, as well as a vibrant opening with Maracatu Ouro do Congo.
In addition to the shows, FESTCAL will host lectures such as “Sobre Festivais” (On Festivals), with Amauri Falseti and Aglaia Pusch, and “Cultural Criticism”, led by Márcio Tito. These meetings will discuss the importance of cultural production and the role of criticism in the arts. FESTCAL reaffirms its commitment to peripheral art and invites the public to participate in this cultural celebration. More information about the program can be found on the festival’s official website and on its social media channels.
