Trixie Mattel to Play Drag Football Coach in New Comedy

Trixie Mattel, famous for her participation in RuPaul’s Drag Race, has been confirmed as part of the cast of FX’s new comedy, English Teacher. The series is created by Brian Jordan Alvarez, known for his work on Will & Grace, and addresses the life of Evan Marquez, a gay English teacher at a high school in Texas.

The LGBT+ drama follows Marquez, played by Alvarez, as he navigates the personal, professional and political challenges of his workplace. In the first episode, the school’s principal, Grant Moretti (played by Westworld’s Enrico Colantoni), informs Evan about an investigation related to a past incident in which he kissed his boyfriend Malcolm (Jordan Firstman) in front of the students.

Drag Race All Stars 3 winner and YouTube star Trixie Mattel will make a guest appearance in the second episode of the series. Her character will be a drag football coach who will help the school’s cheerleading squad improve their cheerleading skills in preparation for a “politicized game of powder puff.”

Showrunner Paul Simms revealed that Trixie Mattel was the first choice for the role, highlighting her popularity and talent. The English Teacher series is set to premiere on September 2 and promises to bring humor and reflection on the issues faced by an LGBT+ teacher in a conservative school environment.
