One of the main initiatives is the “LGBT+ Map”, a collaborative initiative that aims to increase access for the LGBT+ population to local spaces and resources. The online map, categorized by culture, sociability, religion, sports and politics, will be launched at the end of the month with free access. Anyone can contribute by filling out the form by clicking here.
Another highlight is the carrying out of a survey during the DF Diversity Parade, on July 28. Recognizing the parade as a privileged space for political articulation, the survey seeks to better understand the needs and challenges faced by the local LGBT+ population.
“The LGBT+ Bonde is one of our most strategic and dynamic initiatives. With its arrival in the Federal District, our expectation is not only to highlight the richness and diversity of the local LGBT+ communities, but also to strengthen the foundations for more active and representative political participation. The Federal District is a region of intense struggle and resistance, and we are here to amplify these voices, collaborating with local institutions to transform this engagement into occupation of spaces of power and decision-making”, says Gui Mohallem, from the Executive Board of VoteLGBT.
During its visit to the Federal District, the LGBT+ Bonde project will conduct a diagnosis of local leaders, strengthening connections with political actors and institutions. This effort aims to map the strengths and challenges for effective participation in institutional politics by LGBT+ leaders. In addition, the organization promotes the short film festival “LGBTflix” (flix.votelgbt.org), dedicated to Brazilian productions with LGBT themes. The festival aims to encourage the production of videos that tell the stories of leadership by LGBT+ people in the Federal District, with prizes for the videos that receive the most votes.
Partnership with Distrito Drag
VoteLGBT’s partner organization in the Federal District is Distrito Drag, a collective of drag artists created in October 2017. Distrito Drag is a space for self-organization and self-training of artists, which aims to produce and disseminate LGBTI culture through drag art, actively participating in the cultural scene of the Federal District and Brazil. The collective openly advocates the fight for more art and culture, for the promotion of free sexual orientation, free gender identity and human rights for LGBTI people, against racism and all types of violence.
