Amazonas holds LGBT+ outreach campaign

Services were made available in the areas of family, public records, compensation actions, recognition and dissolution of stable unions, custody and alimony. Those assisted scheduled appointments during the week, as reported by public defender Elânia Nascimento.

Elânia highlighted the DPE’s mission regarding LGBTQIAPN+ issues. “These days, there are several violations of rights related to the LGBTIAPN+ population, such as homophobia and transphobia. The Public Defender’s Office is present in this action, which is one of several designed in favor of diversity,” said the defender. She reinforced the importance of the Public Defender’s Office promoting Human Rights, following the constitution to build a society without prejudice.

The action brought relief to many, such as self-employed worker Ayu Moura, 27, who was seeking to have her name changed. “It was essential, a great strategy. The Public Defender’s Office and Casa Miga quickly provided me with all the necessary steps and documents. I am very happy,” said Ayu.

With the same goal, Bruna Cabral, 34, was also helped. “I’ve wanted it for a long time. Here, it was wonderful and everything was perfect. Very good for me and for other people who are also succeeding,” celebrated Bruna.

Karen Arruda, director of Casa Miga, highlighted the importance of the partnership with DPE-AM. “With the support of the Public Defender’s Office, everything becomes easier. Name correction is the first step towards recognizing and exercising rights. LGBTphobia is often veiled. This work helps our beneficiaries protect themselves and promote citizenship so they can continue their lives with autonomy,” Karen emphasized.
