Minas Gerais Assembly debates policies for LGBT+ Culture

Human Rights Commission discusses creation of permanent program to support Pride Parades in Minas Gerais

The Human Rights Commission of the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG) held a public hearing on Monday (15/7) to discuss the need for a permanent program of public policies aimed at promoting LGBTQIA+ culture in the state. The main focus was the LGBTQIA+ Pride Parades in Minas Gerais.

“The LGBTQIA+ parades are, in addition to demonstrations for citizenship rights, also a cultural expression that is increasingly part of Minas Gerais. Today, there is no greater political demonstration in the state than the LGBTQIA+ Parade in Belo Horizonte. Incentives are needed to ensure not only the event itself for the public, but also a dignified organization for the volunteers who work every year to make the parades happen”, said state deputy Bella Gonçalves (PSOL), vice-president of the Commission and requester of the hearing.

The public hearing highlighted the importance of creating a program that ensures continued support for LGBTQIA+ Pride Parades, recognizing their role in promoting diversity and inclusion. Bella Gonçalves emphasized the need for public policies that ensure these events are held with adequate structure, benefiting both participants and organizers.

The discussion at ALMG reflects a growing movement to integrate LGBTQIA+ culture into the political and social landscape of Minas Gerais, promoting events that celebrate diversity and defend the rights of the community. The creation of a permanent program seeks to ensure that these cultural manifestations continue to occur in an organized manner and with due support from the state.
