Aretuza Lovi celebrates her role as a judge on the classic “Show de Calouros”

Singer and drag queen Aretuza Lovi has been occupying a prominent place on Brazilian television, being one of the judges on the “Show de Calouros” section on the Silvio Santos Program. More than a personal milestone, the artist highlights that her presence represents an important step towards representation in the media and in society as a whole.

For Aretuza, who started in the music scene without having many references from drag singers who occupied prominent places, it is a great achievement to have the opportunity to be in people’s homes every week, showing more of her art and representing so many other artists.

“Every time a movie comes into my head thinking that I am one of the pioneers of the drag music scene in Brazil and I am occupying that place today. It is very important to have representation in all places, especially on television, where I am being very respected and my art is not sexualized,” she says.

The singer also acknowledged the relevance of the Silvio Santos program, especially Show de Calouros, for having been one of the pioneers in giving space to artists who are part of the LGBTQIAPN+ community at a time when there was greater resistance on television. “It was a program that gave a lot of opportunities back then to several drag queens and trans people who were performing at the time. It was one of the only programs that gave this space to artists and that is very remarkable”, she says.

For Aretuza, occupying this position as an artist, drag queen and singer is a source of pride and responsibility. “I am very happy and feel valued for being on this stage. It is extremely important to have artists of diversity occupying spaces in all art venues. I want to be able to contribute a lot to each talent that passes through the stage, bringing a little of my knowledge, my experience, with a lot of affection and humility. In addition to inspiring other LGBTQIAPN+ artists and showing that it is possible to make dreams come true”, she declared.
