“I Need to Say I Love You” is a short film that became a campaign against suicide

“Certainly, I am alive today because of my ability to produce poetry”

“I need to say that I love you”. This phrase is written daily by the artist and communicator Ariel Nobre. It was with her that Ariel “survived suicide”, as he himself describes it. “At the last second, I remembered to record what would be my last words. Certainly, I am alive today because of my ability to produce poetry,” he says.

The story is recorded in the short film “I Need to Say I Love You”, available online. The film has been shown at more than 30 festivals, both in Brazil and abroad, receiving public recognition at the São Paulo International Short Film Festival, in addition to being elected best short film at the Goiânia Mostra de Curtas festival and receiving a nomination for the Grande Prêmio de Cinema Brasileiro.

The project also became a suicide prevention campaign for trans men. “I Need to Say I Love You is an extension of my existence and tells how I became who I am from my perspective and that of my companions on the journey”, he says, adding: “This is the message I have to say to myself in public.”
