Deputy wants to sue the radio in court for transphobic content

State deputy Linda Brasil (Psol) took advantage of her speech during the grand plenary session last Thursday, 20th, to repudiate the speech of a radio presenter and parliamentarian from the Chamber of Councilors of Tobias Barreto. The deputy became aware of a video, which is circulating on social media, in which the communicator makes LGBTQIA+phobic insults and stated that she will take legal action against the communicator and the radio on which the insults were broadcast.

The deputy said she will not let this hate crime go unpunished. “We need to hold people who commit crimes accountable and we will not tolerate a crime of this severity, as there is the aggravating factor of this radio presenter speaking to an entire region. This is a hate crime and that’s not a joke, we are dealing with the lives of people who are expelled from home, like an advisor from my mandate who was expelled from home at the age of eleven, people who are pushed into prostitution, because they are not welcomed, they are expelled from their families because of their gender identities”, emphasized the deputy.

According to Linda, this is not the first time that the radio host has insulted the LGBTQIA+ population, including being known for his attacks on women. The deputy cited a meeting of communicators in which the individual said words and insults to women, including the Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco. “The LGBTQIA+phobic episode adds to a series of violence committed by him, which reflects the use of violence as a subterfuge by those who seek to disguise their own incompetence with controversy”, analyzed Linda.

Linda also stated that she will take legal action, through her Mandate, together with the Association of Transvestites United in the Fight for Citizenship (Unidas) and Amosertrans. “This will not go unpunished and we will contact the radio station where this communicator works to have the right to respond, and his public apology and retraction, as well as asking for the program to be removed from the air of all networks and media”, sentenced.

The parliamentarian considered that if the radio does not comply with the request of its Mandate, the process will be continued through a police report for the crime of LGBTQIA+iphobic Racism committed, it will file a representation with the Public Ministry and Anatel , in addition to filing a Public Civil Action for obligation to do so and compensation.
