They have done work not only of a spiritual nature, but also of an emotional nature, by also helping many people to overcome traumas and wounds caused by exclusion.
The realization that helping others goes far beyond the four walls of a religious temple has led the Cidade de Refúgio Brasília church, in the Federal District, to take the initiative of making a monthly mapping of each action to be taken within the church. Whether during this period when temperatures drop and homeless people need warm clothing or on commemorative dates such as October, when Children’s Day is celebrated and a campaign is carried out to distribute toys and activities aimed at brightening children’s day, needy children.
“Our biggest difficulty is not because we are women at the head of a church, but because the people who come to us are so hurt and injured”, comments Daniela.

And this leading role and prominence that the church has assumed in Brasília has yielded good results, as 60 families are served monthly with this social project carried out by the church on a voluntary and internal basis, with the help of only its members; since they do not receive government collaboration for this.
“We must, as Christians, start to look more at the needs of others, and this goes far beyond bringing food or a toy. Welcoming begins first with listening and embracing.”

When asked what message or message she would like to leave for the LGBT+ community, Daniela Santos was emphatic in saying how open her arms are to welcoming those who felt excluded due to their sexuality or gender identification. And it reinforces that the CR Church Brasília space is open to welcome people and families who demonstrate the desire to have a place to belong.
The example of this church in the Federal District makes us reflect on how others could also be inspired and begin this model of social work within their churches in the same way. After all, promoting the sacred words of the gospel goes far beyond a fervent speech from the pulpit or songs that talk about love for others without an effective attitude towards those in need.
