“The association wants the deputy to retract the allegations he made on his profile”
An action for compensation for moral damages filed by the MT Queer Cultural Association against state deputy Gilberto Cattani (PL) is being processed in the 7th Civil Court of Cuiabá (MT). The parliamentarian made a publication criticizing a short film produced by the association, where the actors wear school uniforms from the State of Mato Grosso. MT Queer’s defense seeks for the deputy to pay compensation of R$40,000.
The Associação Cultural MT Queer maintains the largest YouTube channel for LGBTQIAPN+ WebSeries in the Midwest, addressing themes and realities of this audience. One of his videos came to the attention of deputy Gilberto Cattani, who made a post accusing the production of “encouraging students to practice the practices they practice”. The video tells the story of two school-aged teenagers who have a relationship, wearing state uniforms.
“We cannot accept that our children are affected by this ideology, we cannot accept that our children are induced to practices that their parents do not agree with”, declared Cattani. The deputy also criticized the support received by the association, such as that from councilor Maysa Leão (Republicans) and the Legislative Assembly.
Lawyer Wanderson Vital, representing MT Queer, clarified that the association is not only seeking compensation, but also a public retraction from the deputy. “The association wants the deputy to retract the allegations he made on his profile, in the same dimensions and on the same social network,” said Vital. Furthermore, the association demands that Cattani be sentenced to pay R$40,000 in moral damages, in response to the prejudiced and irresponsible allegations made by him.
The legal action aims not only to repair moral damages, but also to reinforce the fight against prejudice and discrimination faced by the LGBTQIAPN+ community in Mato Grosso and throughout Brazil.
