The relationship culminates in a dance at a 19th century ball in Britain. The highlight is when Rogue sacrifices himself to save the world, leading to his kiss with the Doctor. This is the first time that the protagonist has a romantic interest in another man. Previously, there was only one comic peck between Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor and a John Barrowman character in 2005.
Ncuti Gatwa debuts as the 15th Doctor in the special “The Church on Ruby Road” in 2023. The new season also introduces Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, the Doctor’s new companion. The series continues with weekly episodes on Disney+ until the end of the month.
