“Every Night I’ll Be There” narrates trans protest in front of the church

After suffering transphobic aggression, she stands in front of a neo-Pentecostal church every night

Filmed between 2018 and 2022, the documentary “Toda Noite Estarei Lá”, directed by Suellen Vasconcelos and Tati Franklin, follows the trajectory of Mel Rosário, aged 58, who, after suffering a transphobic attack, stands in front of a neo-Pentecostal church every nights in the form of protest. Produced by Graúna Digital and distributed by Descoloniza Filmes, the documentary premiered in cinemas on May 30th.

The film was awarded at several festivals, including the 30th Vitória Film Festival, where it won the awards for Best Interpretation and the Vitória Trophy for Best Film, the Olhar de Cinema 2023 (Best Direction and Best Acting), and the 17th For Rainbow (Best Actress, Best Soundtrack, Best Art Direction).

Additionally, it was shown at Wicked Queer: The Boston LGBT Film Festival (USA). The premiere in Brazilian cinemas coincides with the Corpus Christi holiday, the date on which the March for Jesus takes place, an event marked by the manifestation of the Christian faith, and will continue to run during the month of June, which celebrates LGBTQIA+ Pride.

The story
After suffering a physical attack due to transphobia in the evangelical church she attended, Mel Rosário, 58 years old, demands her rights by protesting in front of the church that prevents her from participating in services. While fighting for justice, Mel finds ways to reinvent himself and survive in Bolsonarist Brazil.
