Pernambuco gains chatbot against transphobia

Tool integrated into WhatsApp is specialized in receiving and monitoring reports of human rights violations

Girls and boys in Pernambuco will soon be able to count on Pajú Zap, a chatbot integrated with WhatsApp, specialized in receiving and monitoring reports of human rights violations against trans and transvestite people. After receiving the complaint, the chatbot directs the victim to public reception services provided by the State Government.

Initiative uses WhatsApp against transphobia (Pajubá Tech/Disclosure)

The initiative is from the programmer and executive director of the social enterprise Pajubá Tech, Luana Maria, resident of Ibura, on the outskirts of the south zone of Recife. Her idea is to combine communication, technology and education to provide support to victims of transphobia.

Pernambuco led, in 2022, the ranking of murders of trans people across the country.

The tool was developed in a state scenario that has an LGBT+ plan stipulating that the Department of Social Defense must create a mechanism to record rates of violence against this population. The objective is for the initiative to become national.

The program is currently in the testing phase and has not yet been released to the public. On April 12, it was presented to representatives of the state and municipal governments with the participation of representatives from the management of LGBT+ policy and the Youth Superintendence of the state of Pernambuco, the Youth Secretariat of Recife and the Municipal Reference Center for LGBTQIA+ Citizenship of the Recife.

Leadership

Pernambuco led, in 2022, the ranking of murders of trans people across the country. The data is from the National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals (Antra). A dossier showed that the state recorded 13 cases of Intentional Lethal Violent Crimes (CVLIs) against trans people.

According to the entity, Pernambuco moved from 5th in the ranking to take first place. The State was followed by São Paulo, which fell from 1st to 2nd position, and Ceará, which went from 4th to 3rd, in 2022, with 11 cases each.
