Meghan Markle won a lawsuit against her half-sister Samantha, who accused her of libel. Time reported it.
In particular, the girl sued Prince Harry’s husband for libel after an interview with Oprah Winfrey on the channel in 2021, claiming that the duchess lied about her life and about her, as well as in the book “Finding Freedom : Harry and Meghan and the Making of the Modern Royal Family.”
In the lawsuit, Samantha also alleged that the 2022 Netflix documentary series Harry and Meghan contained 14 defamatory claims about her.
Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell ruled that Samantha did not provide substantial evidence to support the defamation claim, so she dismissed the claim with a note that it could not be filed again.
At the hearing, the judge emphasized that the examples of “libel” cited in the lawsuit were merely the subject of differing opinions that could not be proven. This means they cannot be the basis for a libel claim.
Samantha is seeking $75,000 in damages.
It was previously reported that Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha Markle filed a libel suit “based on willfully false and malicious statements made to a global audience.”
