“We presented the video work of our team, where we talked about how the aggressor country took away a normal childhood from our children, how this war affects them, what difficulties are faced by the children and what they experience when they lose their parents and relatives. Our country is fighting so that our children can live later they have a peaceful childhood, freedom and independence. In turn, Sofia Shamia delivered her speech in tears and remembered the girl who lost her parents due to the Russian attack.
“Every time I say where I’m from, sorry, I get a little emotional. That’s all, every time I watch this video, I remember the girls, the boys, when I was in Okhmatdyt, I had the opportunity to talk to them. I remember a child running, playing, coming up to me and saying: “I like your dress, you look like a princess.” And then he said: “But you know what? My mom and dad died.” And he says it so naturally, as if it were yesterday. He says it so calmly, although I see so much pain in his eyes,” she said.
In a video that amazed the international jury, a Ukrainian woman told the story of how she started practicing art therapy with children to help them after the horrors they had experienced.
“On February 24, 2022, a terrible war destroyed my home – Ukraine, leaving behind the ruins of a once happy life. Thousands of people lost their homes due to missile attacks. Streets, villages and whole cities were destroyed, nature was destroyed. Each one of us was hurt. I was already involved in charity work, but the war made me realize that I could do more. I was inspired by the Ukrainian volunteers . As an artist, I understood the power of art. That’s why I started art therapy with children – to understand their feelings. I organized a charity auction and sent the proceeds from the sale of paintings to the rehabilitation of children whose childhood was taken away from them,” Sofia said in the video.
It was previously reported that Russia was not allowed to participate in the Miss World beauty contest.
