According to him, actress Alyssa Milano, who played Phoebe’s younger sister, influenced Dougherty’s take on the leading role.
So in the early 2000s, Holly Marie Combs arranged a meeting with the show’s producer, Jonathan Levine, to find out why her co-star was fired from the show.
“She said, ‘We don’t want to — but we’re pushed into this corner — we’re essentially in a position where it’s one or the other. (Alyssa) told us it was her or (Shannen), and Alyssa threatened to sue us for a hostile work environment,” he quoted the actress as saying.
The show’s producer also noted that Milano “documents whenever she feels uncomfortable on set.” For Combs, this information was surprising. He doesn’t remember any serious fights between them.
Dougherty admitted that he was hurt after being eliminated from the series. For a whole year he tried to understand why he hurt Milano so much:
“I don’t remember being rude to him on set. I remember one episode where he was doing something over Christmas break and they asked me to work with him on some stuff and I had no problem with that. I “I can’t be more nice and understanding,” she recalled.
At the same time, Combs said she was ready to leave the show because she was upset about the situation.
“It’s not a show I wanted to do without Shannen. She didn’t want to do it without me. So I don’t want to do it without her, and that should be understandable,” she recalls saying.
