The protagonist of As Branquelas also commented on the difficulty in using his son’s new pronouns
The actor Marlon Wayansknown for his performance in the film The White Girls, spoke about his relationship with his transgender son. During your participation in the podcast The Breakfast Clubthe artist declared to his son and said that he loves him unconditionally and that he fights to make him feel comfortable in this new phase as a man.
“Skittles, or Rainbow Child, is about my son – I have a daughter who transitioned into a son. My daughter Amai is now Kai. And then I talk about the transition. Not his transition, but my transition as a parent, moving from ignorance and denial to complete love and unconditional acceptance.” he said.
Marlons also revealed his difficulty in using the new pronouns (he/him) or referring to his son, but stated that he is willing to correct his mistakes: “They know I love them. They see that I’m trying.”
“But I have to respect their wishes, right? And as a father, I just want my children to be free. I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought. Free to be themselves.” continued.
“What is important to me? Comedy. What is important to me? My children that I love. And what is important? Change. And so, all of you world leaders who are holding this summit, I want you to think about these people, and about this synapse, and how to include this next generation,” scored.
“Because I see a lot of gray hairs here, but these kids we’re dealing with here are different. And we can’t follow our old ways and expect to do new things. So please embrace the new,” finished.
