Last Tuesday night, the 14th, Liniker won a chair at the Brazilian Academy of Culture (ABC), she is the first transsexual artist to occupy a place at the Academy. She was sworn into seat number 51, which was previously occupied by Elza Soares.
During her speech, the singer did not contain her emotion and spoke about the importance of taking a place at ABC.
“Liniker de Barros Ferreira Campos, Brazilian, singer, songwriter, actress, visual artist, businesswoman, producer, 28 years old. IMMORTAL by the Brazilian Academy of Culture. I still don’t even know what to say with such an honor I receive”, started.
“Taking this place, chair 51, which was Elza Soares’ our eternal voice, in the Brazil we live in, with the cutouts that run through my body, is surreal and gigantic. I never thought it would be possible to be considered like that, because I couldn’t even imagine , because it is distant” he said.
“In my chest there is a certain silence filled with emotion, for imagining my journey so far, thinking about everything I have already written and will still write, sing, interpret, assimilate and build within Brazilian culture”, he added.
“To my family, my friends, my loves, my fans, the Brazilian academy of culture and all my ancestry, thank you. This is not just a post on a social network”, he spoke.
“Here we see history being written alongside a sea of new possibilities that are opening up to so many people in Brazil. We are here and we exist”, concluded.
