Erika Hilton proposes PL for free name and gender correction

The project, called “Respeito Tem Nome”, aims to eliminate rates of recognition of gender identity

Last Tuesday, the 24th, the deputy Erika Hilton presented a Bill in the Chamber of Deputies that aims to guarantee the rights of transsexuals and transvestites to have their names and genders changed in documents free of charge.

According to the deputy, nowadays, the fees for rectifying data in the civil registry can reach R$1,500, which, due to the value, ends up making it impossible for trans and transvestite people, especially the most themselves, have the right to this change.

The PL, number 5123/2023, created a program called Respect Tem Nome, which aims to provide free rectification of data in the documents of people in the LGBTQIAPN+ community. Furthermore, the PL also obliges the State to recognize the gender identity of these people.

For Erika, preserving the right to one’s own name and gender to financial conditions is denying the minimum of rights for trans and trevestis people. Now, the project goes to analysis in the Chamber committees before being voted on in plenary.
