This Tuesday, 10th, AComission of Social Security, Social Assistance, Childhood, Adolescence and Family from the Chamber approved, by 12 votes to 5, the project that aims to prohibit same-sex marriage in Brazil.
The project now goes to the Human Rights and Constitution and Justice committees of the House, but to become law, the project still needs to go through other committees and also the plenary sessions of the Chamber and Senate.
In his report, deputy Pastor Eurico He cited God three times and associated homosexuality with illness on five other occasions.
“Homosexual behavior is therefore contrary to the personal character of the human being and therefore contrary to natural law. In addition to this history, homosexual relationships are not biologically designed to incorporate the corporal complementarity of the sexes”, said the deputy in part.
“It is impossible for such relationships to generate life. Homosexual relationships, therefore, do not provide society with the special efficacy of procreation, which justifies regulation in the form of marriage and its consequent special protection by the State. Trying to extend the marriage regime to homosexuals is a vain attempt to change reality through laws”, he added.
The pastor’s project goes against the position of the OAB Nacional, which said in part: “The prohibition that this project wants to institute is unreasonable, as it is segregationist to intend that the entire portion of a population be prohibited from exercising the right to civil marriage due to their sexual orientation or gender identity”.
“And don’t even say that there would be no discrimination because LGB+ people could marry a person of the other sex or gender, as is incredibly sometimes alleged, because what is being discussed is the discrimination that exists against people who wish to civilly marry a person of the same sex and is prevented from doing so”, continued.
The pastor also proposed the creation of a new institute in the Civil Code, called “common life society”, which would be different from marriage and stable unions.
However, this excerpt was deleted after conservative deputies understood that this point would open a loophole to legitimize polyamory.
After approval by the Chamber Committee, other politicians expressed their indignation with the project, the deputy Laura Carneiro he spoke: “For me, this is called evil, this is usurping the right to revenge. This is something that makes me absolutely disgusted, I’m disgusted, I want to cry, to vomit.”
“Honestly, taking away rights is everything that the Constitution does not allow. What is being done here today is not just voting for an unconstitutionality, we have expanded the unconstitutionality”, she continued.
The deputy Erika Kokay expressed: “There is a rush to throw into limbo more than 80 thousand couples who today have their relationships extremely regulated, the rush is to stimulate an LGBTQIA+ phobia, which turns into cruel statistics, the rush is to deify the discourse of death, and here we want take away rights.”
Deputy Pastor Henry Vieira he said: “We spent several sessions demonstrating how unsympathetic, insensitive, unconstitutional and violent this report is.”
