Johnny Hooker talks about show cancellation: “Persecution”

Johnny Hooker spoke again about the cancellation of his show at Mormaço Cultural 2023, in Boa Vista, capital of Roraima.

After the news, the artist stated that he was “devastated” and, at the same time, had to deal with persecution and criticism from a conservative public.

In an interview with iG QueerJohnny stated that religious people and the far-right public rescued an old video to manipulate people, where the artist said that Jesus was a queer person.

For the artist, with the release of these videos, his performances are boycotted and his form of artistic expression is censored.

“They want to own God, a person who was from the streets”, criticized him, who would be the only LGBTQIAPN+ attraction at the event in Boa Vista.

“It is persecution against the LGBT+ population. I, in fact, was the only LGBT+ person who would be part of the program. And they found a way for me to be removed,” he completed.
