The artist’s show was canceled by the mayor of Boa Vista after Johnny claimed that Jesus is a transvestite
Last Monday, the 25th, the mayor of Boa Vista, Arthur Henriqueannounced the cancellation of the show Johnny Hooker in the city after some religious people publicized a presentation by the artist where he claims that Jesus is a transvestite.
The city’s mayor stated that, after pressure from religious people on his social networks, he decided to cancel Johnny’s performance in the city.
The artist would perform at the Mormaço Cultural 2023 event that will take place between September 26th and October 1st in the capital of Roraima. The attractions were chosen by the city’s residents themselves through a vote.
However, the mayor had been receiving criticism from conservative and religious groups who shared a video of a 2018 performance by Johnny where he says that Jesus is a transvestite.
“And I’m here today to tell you that Jesus is a transvestite, yes, Jesus is a transsexual, yes, Jesus is a queer, yes,” Hooker said.
After pressure, the mayor of Boa Vista canceled the show and said: “This weekend, one of the attractions (Hooker) was disapproved by many people through public demonstrations. I was outside Brazil, at an early childhood event, and upon my return, Saturday, I came across these questions.”
“I want to apologize. Respect is something I don’t give up. Everyone knows my principles and my values and, as mayor, I will always do the best for the people and the city of Boa Vista”he continued in a video posted on social media.
“We immediately began legal negotiations and, at my request, Fetec (Boa Vista Education, Tourism, Sports and Culture Foundation) canceled this festival attraction”, completed.
