It is understood the Australian pop star filed for divorce on Monday in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences.
This comes months after the former couple announced their split in May.
In an emotional Instagram post, Hayes admitted she’s kept her marital problems a secret for the “last two years” despite being an “open book” when it comes to her creativity.
“After 17 years of marriage to the most beautiful man I have ever known, Richard and I have decided to accept that our marriage has ended for good. our lives,” she wrote.
Darren Hayes said that they did not separate due to scandals, infidelity or interference of third parties.
“It’s just life. We adore each other and always will,” the post read.
