The tournament, founded by Prince Harry, has been taking place since 2014. Ukraine debuted at the Invictus Games in 2017.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle supported the Ukrainian soldiers at the sports competitions of the 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf. The Daily Mail reported this.
In particular, the Duke of Sussex approached members of the Ukrainian team, shook hands, talked with them and took photos.
In addition, paparazzi filmed members of the royal family meeting with paramedic and volunteer Yulia “Tyra” Paevskaya. In the photo, Meghan Markle can be seen holding his hand as they walk to the event, with Prince Harry walking alongside. Because of her injured leg, Paevskaya is in a wheelchair.
It was noted that Taira was supposed to participate in the competition last year, but was captured by the enemy during the siege of Mariupol in March 2022.
So, in his speech, he addressed the paramedic: “I want to take a minute to recognize the Ukrainian Team and one special person in particular – Tyra. Tyra, I don’t think I’ve met anyone as brave and strong, like you. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that you embody the spirit of Ukraine and the Invictus. It’s so good to see you and feel your energy live, because we missed you last year.”
