The place is called Ulko-Tammio. It is a small island located in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland.
Finland has the world’s first digital detox tourism island. Euronews writes about it.
“The island of Ulko-Tammio, off the coast of Hamina, will be a phone-free zone this summer. We want to encourage holidaymakers to turn off their smart devices, stop and really enjoy the islands,” said Mats Seal of the Visit Kotka-Hamina tourist board.
The island has a mobile network, but travelers will be asked to keep smart devices in their pockets and disconnect from social networks.
“This is a wonderful initiative that can be implemented in other natural and recreational areas,” Selin emphasized.
The island can be reached by private boat or sea cruises. Tourists can also take a water taxi from Varissaari. It is a historical fortress of the island.
It will be remembered that the island where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed was previously sold.
