The main safety problems at work are linked to typical and commuting accidents
In 2022, Brazil had 612,900 cases of accidents at work and 2,500 deaths related to these occurrences, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Observatory – an initiative of the Public Ministry of Labor. What is most frightening is that these numbers are linked only to formal workers, not taking into account informal services in general.
The hospital care area registered more cases – with almost 60 thousand situations -, which is due to the fact that it is linked to the reception and follow-up service in cases of health emergencies. However, notifications occurred in environments with different conditions.
Places most likely to be at risk
From civil construction sites, which present greater risks because they are linked to force activities, to offices, which theoretically do not present threats, workers have experienced incidents of falls, impacts or even the development of injuries.
According to firefighter Souza Junior, the main reasons are linked to accidents typical and commuting. “Typical accidents happen during work execution, such as falls and back pain, which may be linked to the repetition of activities or even due to poor posture. Commuting accidents, on the other hand, have to do with the journey between work and home”, he explains.
