A new film from the universe of Turma da Mônica is about to be adapted for theaters. After the success of ‘Monica’s Gang: Ties and Lessons’, Mauricio de Souza announced during CCXP22 the production of yet another feature film for fans of the gang from the Limoeiro neighborhood. Entitled ‘Turma da Mônica Jovem: Reflexes do Medo’the film will continue the adventures of the group and will show the adolescent phase of the characters.
However, despite the news having pleased the public, the disclosure of the new actors who will play Mônica and her friends has had repercussions among Internet users. This is because many claim that the artists are not similar to the characters. So, check out what has changed in the cast and what to expect from the new production!
New cast of the plot
After fans held a series of speculations about who would be the actors of ploton Tuesday (28/03) the cast of the live-action was announced via Twitter from Turma da Mônica Brasil, which will feature well-known names, such as:
- Sophia Valverde as Mônica;
- Xande Valois as Cebolinha;
- Bianca Paiva as Magali;
- Theo Salmon as Cascão;
- Carol Roberto as Milena.
In a photo alongside the illustrator Mauricio de Souza, via Turma da Mônica Jovem’s Instagram, the actors appeared dressed as the characters and, in the comments, Bianca Paiva celebrated the declaration of the beginning of the recordings on March 30th. “What a dream! come TMJ [Turma da Mônica Jovem] thank you for everything!”, wrote the actress.
Former actors defend new cast
Despite the new cast not having pleased the audience, Giulia Benite and Kevin Vechiatto, who played Mônica and Cebolinha, respectively, in ‘Turma da Mônica: Laços e Lições’, spoke out via Twitter and came out in defense of their colleagues.
“It was ongoing until now, but I saw a little of what is happening. I wanted to say that I really appreciate all the compliments and I’m very happy with all this admiration, but really, I think that doesn’t stop the cast from Turma da Mônica Jovem do a great job too! I wish you all much success”, wrote Giulia Benite in a post.
Kevin Vechiatto declared: “When they presented us as the cast of TDM (Turma da Mônica), my parents read atrocities on Twitter and Instagram, in a while you will be acclaiming them. So skip this part, be empathetic and supportive from the start. I support the cast of TDMJ (Turma da Mônica Jovem) and wish them every success. It’s an incredible experience!”

Directed by Maurício Eça, also director of ‘Carousel’ and ‘The Girl Who Killed Her Parents’, and script by Regina Negrini and Antonio Arruda, the duo who worked on the series Invisible City, the film will show Mônica, Magali, Cebolinha, Cascão and Milena’s first day of high school.
Still recognizing the new phase, the group realizes that things at school have been strange and decide to investigate the situation, until they discover that the Museum do Limoeiro will be auctioned and they decide to unite to save it. However, while trying to maintain the institution, the group discovers old secrets of the lemon tree neighborhood and realize that they may be facing a bigger problem than it seems.
The film will be produced by Bronze Filmes in partnership with Maurício de Souza Produções and Rubi Produtora, the distribution will be in charge of Imagem Filmes and the feature still does not have a defined premiere date.
