Azad Safarov, producer of the documentary House of Splinters, shared his impressions of the 2023 Oscars ceremony.
In particular, he said that the last night once again proved the effectiveness of Russian propaganda.
“Friends, I am very sorry that we could not bring the Oscar to Ukraine. We really want to give some joy to Ukrainians in these difficult times. We really believed in it and fought to the end. We had to win not because we from Ukraine, but because the film is deep, important and skillfully shot by the Danish director Simon Lereng Wilmont and made by a cool team. But tonight it was proven again that Russian propaganda works well and knows if how to spin pseudo-heroes where there are no heroes. So, we still have a lot to do,” he wrote on Facebook.
He also added that for the past ten days, the team members have been talking about the crimes committed by the Russian army, the war against Ukraine and fake Russians everywhere. Among them are two heroines of the film from Lisichansk, temporarily occupied by Russia, in the Severodonetsk district of the Lugansk region.
“We were greeted everywhere, supported, hugged and asked everything about everything, about Ukraine. Americans are really very, very worried about Ukraine. We are Ukrainians, we are not hurt. We are fighting . We, like many cool Ukrainian directors and producers , will do everything so that Ukraine has not only an Oscar, but also many other awards. We are Ukrainians, we do not give up. We continue fighting,” Azad Safarov summed up.
It was previously reported that in Los Angeles on the evening of March 13, the 95th Academy Award ceremony was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
