Wayne Shorter, one of the greatest saxophonists in the history of jazz, died in Los Angeles at the age of 90. The news of the musician’s death was confirmed by his agent to The New York Times.
It was learned that the 12-time Grammy winner died on Thursday, March 2, at a hospital surrounded by family.

It is worth noting that Wayne Shorter was born on August 25, 1933 in New Jersey, he studied at Newark Art High School, where he played the clarinet. Later, he switched to playing the saxophone and graduated from New York University in 1956. In 1959, Shorter joined the Jazz Messengers, and four years later became the group’s musical director.
In 1964-68 he played in the quintet of jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, and in the 70s he was a founding member of the jazz fusion group Weather Report.
Wayne Shorter is known for mixing jazz with other music genres such as Latin and rock. The musician is a 12-time Grammy winner. In 2015, the musician received an honorary Grammy statuette.
He released over 200 compositions in his lifetime and received numerous awards, including the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors.
