As the new wave begins, what role will the new anti-covid vaccines adapted to the Omicron variants play? The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has indeed just authorized Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna’s “modified” vaccines, but the way in which France will fit them into its vaccine strategy has yet to be defined. The top health authority is due to speak on the subject in a few days.
For now, it is recommended that adults and adolescents have a full vaccination schedule (in most cases two doses) and a booster. People over 60 or with co-morbidities, as well as pregnant women, are invited to a second booster six months after the first. As of Sept. 5, only 33.3% of eligible 60-79-year-olds and 46.8% of those over 80 had received this fourth dose, Public Health France said. “It is important to strengthen vaccination efforts, given that vaccination coverage remains inadequate.” the agency notes.
