Retreat from the pandemic cannot keep the population away from preventive exams

President of SBACV-RJ emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis to prevent diseases that can be fatal

Yesterday, the 7th, was celebrated the World Health Day, in reference to the foundation of the World Health Organization on this date, in 1948. The purpose of the day is to make the population aware of the quality of life and care for the body itself. In 2022, the day comes at a time when the coronavirus pandemic, thanks to the advance of vaccination, recedes, with a moving average of deaths per day from the disease below 200 people in Brazil. In 2021, at this same time, the moving average showed 2,500 deaths per day.

The least perverse moment of the pandemic, however, does not minimize the need for treatment of other diseases. Quite the opposite. For the president of the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery of Rio de Janeiro (SBACV-RJ), the angiologist surgeon Dr. Almar Bastosa population should always be attentive and seek preventive medical care:

PREVENTIVE EXAMS CAN AVOID INFARCTION AND CANCER EVOLUTION

“Several diseases can be avoided with preventive exams. For example: the diagnosis of increased levels of fats in the blood, if treated early, can prevent future blockage of a coronary artery and thus prevent an acute myocardial infarction. The same applies to a stroke or stroke. Colonoscopies (a test that examines the large intestine) may be performed. diagnose precancerous lesions which, if not removed, would fatally develop into bowel cancer.”exemplifies.

The angiologist also explains that people with comorbidities, sedentary, overweight and over 60 years old need to turn on the alert even more. But, even for young people and athletes, it is recommended to take exams at intervals between six months and 1 year.

In addition to clinical examinations, Dr. Almar emphasizes the importance of a healthy routine, with the practice of exercises, good nutrition and concern about being overweight. “This routine certainly reduces the rates of heart attack and stroke (which currently lead the causes of death in the country)”explains.
