Andor Stern survived the horrors of the Holocaust but lost family members during the dark period of WWII
The only Brazilian survivor of the Nazi Holocaust, Andor Stern passed away this Thursday, 07, at the age of 94, in São Paulo. The information was shared by their family members on social media. Stern died at his home, and the cause of death has yet to be announced.
“Andor devoted much of his time to his lectures on the Holocaust, teaching the horrors of the period so they cannot be denied or repeated, and motivating people to value and be grateful for life and freedom.”, said the family, in a statement, also thanking the messages of affection they are receiving. Stern is survived by five children, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After moving from São Paulo – where he was born in 1928 – to Hungary, Andor Stern’s history was marked by the dark period of the Second World War. 83892 was the number tattooed on his arm when he was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944.
In 1945, when the war came to an end, Stern was freed from the terror of Nazism, but family members who were taken to the camp along with him were murdered in the gas chamber..
