How does a semen allergy manifest itself?

One of my patients consults me because she thinks she may be allergic to semen. This may come as a surprise at first, but semen allergies do exist. However, this remains an extremely rare pathology. It affects approximately one in 5,000 women (ie 0.02%). Because it is not common and involves the intimate area, diagnosis is often delayed, and women and couples may go years before realizing the origin of their problem.
