Top Texas Republicans Call For More Guns, Fortified Schools, Armed Teachers After Attack –

Several Texas Republican leaders shared their thoughts and prayers after a gunman shot at an elementary school in Texas on Tuesday, killing at least 19 children and two teachers. But GOP lawmakers have refused to support any gun control measures as the country enters school following the deadliest shooting since the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre.

Conversely, elected officials have called for more armed teachers and even in fortified schools to aim to eliminate the children of bad actors and say that laws restricting access to guns are not working.

“Inevitably, when this kind of murder happens, you see politicians trying to politicize it, you see democracies and a lot of people in the media whose immediate solution is to try to suppress the constitutional rights of law -abiding citizens. , “said Sen. Ted. Cruz (R) told reporters as parents waited for news about the missing children and gave police a DNA smear to help identify the young victims. “It doesn’t work. It’s not effective. It won’t stop crime.”

He added that the “most effective” tool for protecting children in schools is the best armed law enforcement on campus.

Police said an 18-year-old man who stormed the school, Salvador Ramos, was wearing armor, so he had difficulty stopping after his vehicle collided with a barricade near Robbie Elementary School. At least two law enforcement officers tried to arrest him and he was injured, the New York Times reports.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who won his GOP primer to retain his position on Tuesday, also said he would support more armed citizens to protect children in schools than common sense reform.

“People who shoot people who kill children do not follow the laws of murder. “They’re not going to enforce gun laws,” Paxton told Newsmax. “I prefer law-abiding citizens who are armed and trained so they can react when something like this happens, because it’s not the last.”

“We can’t stop bad people from doing bad things,” Paxton told Fox News later. “We can train, train and train teachers and other administrators to respond quickly. This, I think, is the best answer “.

President Joe Biden spoke to the nation hours after the attack and lashed out at lawmakers for not taking action on gun control following the ongoing noise of gunfire across the country.

“As a nation, we should ask ourselves, ‘When we are in the name of God with a gun lobby, are we doing what we all know needs to be done?’ This was announced by Biden of the White House. “Why are we ready to live in this massacre?” Why do we allow this? Where is our backbone in the name of God? “

“Vice President Dan Patrick (R) denied the allegations in an interview with Tucker Carlson, who blamed the president.” Biltsvda The memory of children killed in the attack – said that schools should be strengthened to exclude mass shooters.

“Obviously, we need to do more. We need to set these goals so that no one can enter except one entrance. Maybe it helped. “Maybe something will stop him,” Patrick said. But it’s actually bigger, Tucker. We are a difficult company. We are a company that is always on top of each other. And we are better than that as a nation ”.
