Will 2023 mark the end of the Covid epidemic in France?

On average, an epidemic lasts two to three years. This was the case with the Spanish flu at the turn of the last century, but also with the Asian flu of the 1950s and 1960s. That seems to be the case again with Covid. Although the weather conditions are quite favorable for the circulation of the virus, and the obstructive gestures are largely put aside, the epidemic continues to decrease.

The number of daily cases has fallen below the symbolic 5,000 mark (down from more than 60,000 in early December). Unheard of since late October 2021 (that is, before the Omicron version blew up the contamination). France, however, continues to actively experiment.“The decline in the number of cases is thus confirmed by the positivity index, in other words, the proportion of positive tests among the tests performed.(about 6%, editor’s note)”, explains Isabelle Parent du Châtelet, Head of Respiratory Infections and Vaccinations at Public Health France (SpF).
