If you thought of Brendan FraserHis name was pronounced like the name of the popular 90’s sitcom “Frasier”, prepare your brain to feel mixed like a salad and omelette.
“The Whale” star told Adam Sandler during Variety’s “Actors on Actors” panel Last week, Sandler — and, well, everyone — got his name wrong for his entire career.
“It’s Fraser,” said the “George of the Jungle” star, pronouncing it like the word razor. “You shave with a razor,” Fraser said, miming shaving his face before reaching a bearded Sandler and quipped, “You should try to stay closer to him.”
However, despite Fraser’s mnemonic device, in another part of the interview Sandler mispronounced Fraser’s name again. But eventually Fraser gave up altogether.
“OK, damn it,” Fraser said, beaten. “No one ever got my name right.”
“Brendan Fraser!” Sandler then screamed, pronouncing it correctly.
“You see, it didn’t feel right,” Sandler later admitted.
“It was great though,” said an exasperated Fraser. “As long as people say so.”
The Mummy star’s desire to cut Sandler some slack makes perfect sense. During their back-to-back interview, Sandler revealed to Fraser that he had threatened to quit their 1994 film Airheads unless director Michael Lehmann promised to cast Fraser in the lead role.
“Finally, I went to his house at four in the morning, woke him up… said… ‘You know Adam Sandler won’t be in ‘Airheads’ unless old man Fraser is in it “. So he changed his tune,” Sandler said, pronouncing Fraser’s name correctly.
