Elton John, who recently announced that he is retiring from US concerts, said on Friday that he is also leaving Twitter.
And Twitter owner Elon Musk isn’t happy about it.
The legendary pianist wrote on Twitter that he was leaving the social media platform because of “misinformation”:
Musk tried to keep the door open for the “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” superstar to change his mind.
“Hope you come back,” Musk tweeted.
Then, in a strange twist, the world’s richest person asked what “misinformation” John found so disturbing.
Since Musk took over Twitter in late October, he has removed a policy that allowed Twitter staff to remove “potentially harmful and misleading information” about the coronavirus.
It also allowed people who were previously suspended for spreading misinformation about COVID, including extremist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), to return to the platform.
While Musk doesn’t understand why the current state of Twitter might not appeal to John or others, many Twitter users were happy to fill in the blanks.
